Roar Of The RailsDuring the Christmas seasons of 1948 and 1949, The A. C. Gilbert Company sponsored Roar Of The Rails, a live, 15 minute television drama set in the fictional James household. Each week Grandpa would tell his young grandson a story of railroad lore. The stories were illustrated with American Flyer trains and accessories, operating on well landscaped layouts. Here are seven recently discovered episodes--complete with commercials promoting American Flyer trains and accessories, Erector Sets, Chemistry Sets, Microscopes, Mysto Magic Sets, and Junior Erector. They will take you back to a post-war era of family, childhood, Christmas, and electric trains, and to a time when one of our biggest concerns was whether the best electric trains ran on two-rail track or three-rail track. B&W. Approx. 105 Min.....$49.95 |

The American Flyer Boys' Railroad ClubThe Boys' Railroad Club was a series of 6 fifteen minute films produced for The A. C. Gilbert Company in 1950, primarily at the gigantic American Flyer layout at the Gilbert Hall Of Science in New York City. They were aired on tv stations across the country from 1950 to 1952. The guest would tell about his job on the real railroad, watch the boys run their American Flyer Trains & Accessories, and comment about how realistic they looked and sounded. Adventures In ScienceAdventures In Science was produced by the A. C. Gilbert Company in cooperation with the President's Committee for Scientists and Engineers. It's purpose was to encourage youngsters to pursue a career in science, engineering, or chemistry. Having Gilbert produce the film seemed only natural in light of the company's sterling reputation for inspiring America's youth with the scientific toys it manufactured. On the cutting edge for its time, the film demonstrated how science aided our national security and told of promising careers in nuclear power generation and nuclear medicine, development of solar power, and computer controlled manufacturing. It even suggested that we would soon be able to put a man on the moon! The film concluded with an appearance by President Dwight Eisenhower explaining that we would need more scientists and engineers by the thousands if we were to keep up with the Russians in the area of research and development. Completed at the end of the Eisenhower administration and released in early 1960, this film clearly illustrated the depth of the company's contribution and commitment to their young customers beyond merely selling Gilbert products.
